    A Message from Our Instructional Chair, Jon Stein

    Happy New Year! I am excited and honored for the opportunity to serve as your Instructional Chair for the San Fernando Valley Football Officials Association. Together, we will build upon the strong foundation that defines our unit.

    Please take a moment to read through the message below. It contains important updates for the upcoming year and what to expect.

    Join or Continue on the Instructional Staff

    If you are interested in joining or continuing on the instructional staff for the 2025 season, I’d love to hear from you. The instructional staff plays a vital role in shaping the success of our unit.

    Express Your Interest in Joining or Continuing on the Instructional Staff

    Key Details:

    • Only individuals who complete the form will be considered (barring special circumstances).
    • Filling out the form does not guarantee placement—selections are based on unit needs.
    • Meetings will occur every other month in the off-season and monthly in-season. Staff should also meet 30 minutes before general in-person meetings. Please apply only if you can commit to this schedule.

    General Instructional Updates

    • Spring Zoom Meetings: Position-based skills sessions and guest instructors. Also, Greg Truex’s CFOA Zoom meetings are held the last Tuesday of each month at 7pm PT. Join here: Zoom Link
    • Summer Passing League: We expect to return to the Saugus and Verdugo Hills tournaments, with more hands-on training.
    • July Kick-Off Meeting: Covers new rules, expectations, and philosophies for 2025. More details will be sent by Secretary-Treasurer Andy Parker.
    • August Clinic: Being scheduled now—stay tuned for dates.
    • In-Season Instruction (Aug–Oct): Live Tuesday night meetings; final location/date TBA.
    • Tests & Quizzes: The 2025 season will include the CFOA Summer Study Guide and Classification Exam. Dates and deadlines coming soon.

    One-on-One Conversations with Unit Members

    As promised during my election speech, I’ll be offering 1-on-1 Zooms to get to know each of you and your officiating goals. Calendar links will go out in February for late-Feb/early-March availability.

    This is your chance to share thoughts, ideas, and dreams for your officiating journey. I truly hope you’ll join me.
